Children are the future ! The Flowers of Tomorrow.
SUPERFUNKTION is proudly supporting the Intyatyambo Community Project (ICP), a registered Non Profit Organization in Capetown / South Africa.
This wonderful project gives small children a deserved chance in life, by providing basic needs: food, shelter, and caring love. They are in need of a new, better care-center.
To realize this we need your help !!!!!!!!
Intyatyambo
The Intyatyambo Community Project is a care centre for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Located in Khayelitsha, an area not far from Cape Town, renowned for a high rate of unemployment, inadequate housing and insufficient basic services The parents have no financial means to give these beautiful children the future they simply deserve. All the children are between the ages of one and six. Some of them are HIV positive.
Intyatyambo’s History
Lindiwe Mfeketho and Nomawethu Tunce just got tired of hearing and seeing the misery and anguish of the many children who have been and are being neglected, abused and abandoned in their area. They decided to take action. Nomawethu donated the use of her property for the site and Lindiwe and Nomawethu together built a small wendy-house cum shack to serve as the first shelter in which the kids could eat, play, listen to stories, sing and receive lots of love and care. Lindiwe recruited some women to stand on streets in Cape Town and its environs to raise awareness and collect donations from passers-by to sustain their project.
Intytyambo Goals and Objectives
Of course the primary aim is to provide a safe shelter for the many needy kids in the area who would have nowhere to go if such a facility were not available. From the inception of Intyatyambo to the present, the more specific goals have changed dramatically. We want to help more destitute children and we want to raise the funds to meet the associated costs. We want to build a happy, safe, environmentally pleasing, fantastic care centre with a hygienic kitchen and clinic/sick room, bedrooms, playrooms and a garden with swings, slides, jungle gyms and other kids’ stuff.
The current home:
Three professionally converted shipping containers with a clean bathroom, hygienic playrooms and bedrooms have replaced the basic tin shack that they spent their days in before.
However, they are still very far from the goal of raising enough funds to build a new care centre.
Currently they are taking care of forty to fifty children. There are some orphans who now live full-time with Nomawethu Tunce, the owner of the plot on which Intyatyambo is presently situated.
Others come in the daytime and return home at night. They would like to take in more children and have a target of being able to accommodate 150 children.
It takes R960.00 (about US$ 140.00 at the time of writing) per week to feed these children.
In the past, this was sometimes not realised and the children had to do without. Various people, in various countries (incl. Australia and Japan) have stepped up fund raising efforts since then.
The children’s basic needs – food and clothing are sufficiently taken care of now thanks to their efforts and many generous donors.
The new home:
We envisage building a new care-centre in the same area. This requires buying a plot, or ideally, two adjacent plots on which to build. Intyatyambo activists have spoken to several materials and building companies in South Africa about donations in expertise, time, training and materials. So far there has been a lot of positive interest but no concrete commitments to date.
One of the volunteers, a builder and handyman became involved with the project after meeting a fundraiser on the streets of Sea Point. He has committed to train up to 10 men and women from the area to become competent builders. Their first training project after getting basic instruction at a building learning centre will be to complete the orphanage under his supervision. The benefits:
1) A new facility for the kids.
2) Up to 10 presently unskilled people will gain building skills and qualifications. Subsequently, they will be able to apply for employment in the building industry.
3) In order to achieve this, they`ve have set a target of raising R500 000 (Five hundred thousand South African Rand) over and above what is needed for running costs.
Intyatyambo was registered as a Non Profit Organisation with the Department of Social Development of South Africa on the 8th of June 2006. (NPO Registration Number: 049-219-NPO)
The project is situated in Site B in Khayelitsha, an area not far from Cape Town, renowned for a high rate of unemployment, inadequate housing and insufficient basic services.
Intyatyambo is part of the following structures: R.D.P., Health Forum (Khayelitsha), SANCO, Department of Welfare
Lindiwe, Nomawethu and the other women of Intyatyambo have been at it ever since, with no government funding. Intyatyambo’s only source of funds is donations from the public.
Donations
To reach their goals and maintain a sustainable project they need regular and long term donations, corporate or private.
Small donations from many donors makes sense in that we can be assured that the financial burden on the donors is of little consequence, and therefore reliable and ongoing.
Anything more, and once-off larger donations will of course be highly appreciated and appropriately allocated.
